(EN) In United States, unlike Europe, the critical approach to the fundamentals of neoliberism is going mainstream and many authors go back to the beginning of capitalism to help us put everything in perspective. These are the “heresies” contained in Life Inc., bestseller by Douglas Rushkoff:
- Money is not a part of nature, to be studied by a science like economics, but an invention with a specific purpose.
- Centralized currency is just one kind of money – one not intended to promote transactions but to promote the accumulation of capital by the wealthy.
- Banking is our society’s biggest industry, and debt is our biggest product.
- Corporations were never intended to promote commerce, but to prevent it.
- The development of chartered corporations and centralized currency caused the plague; the economic devastation ended Europe’s most prosperous centuries, and led to the deaths of half of its population.
- The more money we make, the more debt we have actually created.
But don’t despair, the crisis is an opportunity to reinstate commerce and communities based in creating value for one another, rather than continuing to extract it for the benefit of institutions that no longer exist.

(IT) Negli USA, a differenza dell’Europa, l’approccio critico ai fondamenti del neoliberismo sta raggiungendo il grande pubblico e molti autori ripercorrono la storia del capitalismo aiutandoci a guardare tutto in prospettiva. Queste sono le “eresie” del bestseller Life Inc. di Douglas Rushkoff (di cui si parla nel video qui sopra):
- Il denaro non è un elemento naturale, da studiare con una scienza come l’economia, ma è un’invenzione con uno scopo specifico.
- La valuta centralizzata e solo un tipo di denaro – non inteso per promuovere le transazioni ma piuttosto per promuovere l’accumulazione di capitale da parte dei ricchi.
- Le banche sono la più grande industry della nostra società e il debito e il nostro più grande prodotto.
- Le corporations non sono state create per promuovere il commercio ma per limitarlo.
- Lo sviluppo di compagnie commerciali e della valuta centralizzata ha causato la pestilenza; la devastazione economica ha terminato i secoli più prosperosi d’Europa e ha portato alla morte metà della sua popolazione.
- Più soldi facciamo, più debito, in realtà, abbiamo creato.
Ma non disperate, la crisi è l’opportunità per far ripartire commercio e comunità basate sulla creazione di valore per beneficiarsi a vicenda piuttosto che continuare ad estrarre valore a beneficio di istituzioni che non esistono più.
