He’s got it bigger / Lui ce l’ha più grosso

(EN) Disparity in salary is a reality every woman has to deal with in her professional career. The interactive infographic published online by New York Times shows clearly that the higher the wage, the greater the disparity (female surgeons earn 40% less! ). (IT) Le disparità di salario sono una realtà che ogni donna si trova a dover affrontare nella sua carriera professioale. Per avere un’idea dei livelli toccati negli States esplorate l’infografica pubblicata sul New York Times che mostra, dalle ultime statistiche, come le donne guadagnino meno a tutti i livelli. Ma non solo, più si guadagna più la disparità aumenta (le chirurghe guadagnano circa il 40% in meno!).

Gold, silver and cell phones / Oro, argento e cellulari

(EN) Mobile Compost is a project born in Sweden aimed at taking old mobiles out of circulation while collecting all the precious metals they contain. They calculated that every ton of cell phones contains 1 kilo of silver and 300 grams of gold. If it’s true that in Sweden there are 15 millions cell phones hidden in drawers, it means that more 500 kilos of gold (average mobile weight 120gr) are there, waiting to be collected! Visualizing the Crisis of Credit / La crisi americana patinata

(EN) I’m really fascinated by visual essays and this ambitious work from Jonathan Jarvis gives form to a complex situation making  it easier to understand the dynamics of the big fiasco at play. The only think not clear is: why home owners stopped paying? Probably because they were working “bad jobs”, and not because they were “unreliable” or “bad people” like depicted in this infographic movie (have you noticed it?). But not many like to talk about  income inequality in the US. ———————– (IT) Sono affascinata dai saggi visuali e questo lavoro ambizioso di Jonathan Jarvis riesce a dare forma a una situazione complessa rendendo più semplice capire le dinamiche in gioco nel  grande fiasco dell’economia del credito. La cosa non chiara rimane una: perchè i proprietari di casa hanno smesso di pagare? Probabilmente perchè erano anni che i loro stipendi non crescevano, anzi crollavano sotto il peso dell’inflazione e non perchè sono inaffidabili  o poco responsabili come l’icona animata

Clean coal is a dirty lie/Il carbone pulito è una sporca bugia

(EN) Clean coal debate is getting hot especially because Al Gore and Obama this time are not on the same side.  Nowadays the fuel provides half of U.S. electricity but also 30 percent of the greenhouse-gas emissions that contribute to global warming.  Coal-power lobby is very powerful in Washington and they decided to invest $300 million over 3 years to convince the population that Clean Coal Technology is going to solve  the environmental impact problems of coal (did you know that 1 gram of mercury can pollute and entire lake and coal plants in USA produce 50 tons every year?). I already showed you a campaign trying to fight this gigantic propaganda and now  it’s time for a new one called: The dirty lie. It’s new retro style!
