My favourite, Obama,  is the first major party presidential nominee to refuse general election public financing in the history of the program: he chose to raise his own funds instead of accepting $84 million of taxpayer money. Obama grassroots fundraising campaign is also the first one to rely primarily on the Internet to collect small donations from numerous contributors and, doing so, relying on a new kind of politics, one that does not favor the wealthy and powerful (see infographic above).
