(EN) The art of information design and data visualization became an exhibition in Chicago last month for the seventh edition of Select Media Festival.  Unfortunately works are not visible online but were featured at the experimental cultural center, the Co-Prosperity Sphere, and other venues across the city. Purtroppo il lavori non sono visibili online ma erano esposti al centro culturale sperimentale Co-Prosperity Sphere, e altri luoghi sparsi in città. Visualizing the city/ Nuovi modi di visualizzare la città

(EN) Database City is the title of the workshop held in Madrid last month. It was the second edition of a bigger project called Visualizar an open and participartory research project around theory, tools and strategies of information visualization: “VISUALIZAR 2008 is focused on the city context. Urban environments, which are becoming increasingly dense, complex and diverse, are one of contemporary society’s largest “databases”, daily generating volumes of information that require new methods of analysis and understanding” Inside the workshop, seven proposal have been developed. My favourites are these two: In the air is about making visible the invisible, visualizing gases, particles, pollen, diseases, and other different agents of Madrid’s polluted air. The result is a ghost city surrounded by a multicolored fog changing its shape and hue according to the information feed. Italies and Poverty / Italie e povertà

(EN) There is not only one Italy, but many Italies affected by poverty in different ways.  Density Design is surely contributing to the construction of representation and visualization models for a multidimensional interpretation of poverty and social exclusion starting from data by The National Institute of Statistics. In their gallery some infographics are good, some other a bit too cryptic to be understandable by all . Nevertheless the idea of revealing information hidden within statistical records (Neurath docet) helps democratic and free access to knowledge and information that is the first step to improve living standards. ————— (IT) Non c’è un’Italia unica, ma tante Italie che subiscono la povertà in modo diverso.
