Visualizing the city/ Nuovi modi di visualizzare la città

(EN) Database City is the title of the workshop held in Madrid last month. It was the second edition of a bigger project called Visualizar an open and participartory research project around theory, tools and strategies of information visualization: “VISUALIZAR 2008 is focused on the city context. Urban environments, which are becoming increasingly dense, complex and diverse, are one of contemporary society’s largest “databases”, daily generating volumes of information that require new methods of analysis and understanding” Inside the workshop, seven proposal have been developed. My favourites are these two: In the air is about making visible the invisible, visualizing gases, particles, pollen, diseases, and other different agents of Madrid’s polluted air. The result is a ghost city surrounded by a multicolored fog changing its shape and hue according to the information feed. (EN) The info-designer from WallStats together with Mint, a service for personal financial management, designed a sort of  flowchart, back to 2003,  with all the steps that led to the still-to-be-solved financial crisis. 100 years of pink/ 100 anni di rosa

(EN) The last hundred years of politics and pop culture in this infographic about pink! Few colors have been so politically and sexually charged like this color, a magic mixture of red and white. From the pink elephants of Jack London to the Pink ribbon, symbol of breast cancer, watching the nice work by Voltage Creative I would also add a couple of other pink supporters: Codepink (Women for peace) and the creative activists of the pink blocks around the world  (read more about it). Sustainable food in Japan/ Cibo sostenibile in Giappone

(EN) The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan commissioned to Groovisions an infographic video about the impact of consumer choices on the economy of food. Nowadays 60% of the of the food consumed in Japan is imported and the global economic/energetic crisis and the growth of population is making prices go high. That’s why the video encourages japanese to make sustainable food choices and urges the industry to produce safe, properly labeled food. ——— (IT) Il Ministero che in Giappone si occupa di agricoltura, pesca e foreste ha commissionato a Groovisions un video in infografica che affronta l’impatto delle scelte dei consumatori sull’economia del cibo. Ma non solo. Oggi il 60% del cibo consumato in Giappone viene importato e la crisi economica/energetica globale insieme alla crescita della popolazione sta facendo lievitare i prezzi. Per questo il video incoraggia i giapponesi a fare scelte sostenibili quando acquistano cibo e sporna l’industria a produrre cibo sicuro e ben etichettato. thanx
